Birding Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Using the scooter the Museum is Accessible.  It was not always clear where I should be going and although I had a map it wasn’t a usable as I would have liked.  The scooter was awesome and allowed me to see a property I would not have undertaken on foot.

I covered the Desert Loop Trail, Riparian Corridor, Mountain Woodland and Desert Grassland areas.  I stopped and walked through the Birds of the Sonoran Desert Aviary – a little disappointing and the Hummingbird Aviary – I saw one Hummingbird.  There was a working filling the feeders and she said it was quieter than she had ever seen it.  The two Aviaries would not be countable birds, but it still would have been nice to see them.

I saw more Hummingbirds on the outside of the Aviaries.

Costa’s Hummingbird – Life Bird

There was a Burrowing Owl on display (it had a handler) at the front entrance

There were Cactus Wren – Life Bird galore.

Curve-billed Thrasher

Black Vulture – rare in Tucson

Scott’s Oriole – Life Bird

Inca Dove (in captivity)

Lots of other creatures too

Spiny-tailed Iguana

Mountain Goat

Iron Cross Beetle

Queen Butterfly

And Flora

Aloe viguieri

Blue Palo Verde

I believe this is a Trichocereus hybrid flower a woman was photographing it when I walked up and she was very excited, apparently it only blooms briefly and she was afraid they had missed it.  How could I not take a photo.

Totem Pole Cactus

The outdoor Museum is generally accessible and Scooters were not very expensive $25.  You can’t take the scooters into the enclosed exhibits, but they can cover most of the museum.
