Birding the Gilbert Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch – Parking Lot

The heat and blazing sun (it was 2pm) kept me from attempting to walk the mile I would need to find the Streaky-backed Oriole.  In view of the parking lot is a lovely Cactus garden and some deciduous trees and bushes.

The birds I saw were all old friends or I had seen them in Encanto park, but it was fun watching them flit among the cactus.

European Starling

Gila Woodpecker

It is a flat property and I believe fairly accessible, but even that doesn’t stem the heat.
