Birding Willow Tank - Portal

Writer's picture: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

The Stateline Road down to Willow Tank had a lot of nice birds including my first Bullock's Oriole. The Willow Tank site itself was pretty dead. I expect some shore birds or water birds -- two ducks flew away as I arrived. There was one American Coot floating in the pond -- otherwise just Red-winged Blackbirds in the pond itself.

The blinds are amazing & creative -- but when I was there -- there was nothing to hid from.

A gorgeous spot and a wonderful morning -- here are some birds from nearby.

By first photos of an Ash-throated Flycatcher

European Collared Dove

Chihuahuan Raven

Canyon Towhee

Gambel's Quail (on a wire - a barbed wire)

Black-throated Sparrow

Although there are "ramps" (made of dirt) and once on the berm it is level, I would not consider this spot accessible. There are port-o-potties on the site.
