Bustard & Ostrich & Secretarybirds, Oh My!

This post only features three birds -- but they are good ones...

We saw two Bustards, but only one featured here. Kori's is in the Big Six because it is, well, the biggest Bustard.

Red-crested Bustard - may actually be the prettiest and we didn't even see it in its potential beauty. It wasn't breeding season and that is when they pull out the Red-crest!

Common Ostrich - Besides being the biggest living bird, it is the only bird with only two toes. I just love how they walk and wish we'd seen more of them.

Secretarybird - Still my favorite bird -- we were treated to four sightings (one with two birds), but the last one was spectacular -- the bird was about 20 feet from the vehicle. Andrew whispered to me to look left. I was in the middle of getting a snack and didn't snap to action. Then Andrew commanded me (and he rarely does that) to look left - I did and was delighted. We had a few minutes with the bird before it flew off and my only regret is I missed that photo... but I got others.

The first day at a distance -- but we checked it off the list...
