Feed the Birds

It should come as no surprise that I would like to hang a bird feeder at The View. My condo rules and regulations do not explicitly prohibit bird feeders, so I’ve been trying out a variety of feeders. I put out a log of seed on a plastic boot tray – hoping to protect the porch – and it was both a colossal failure and, despite the boot tray, a great mess. My brother-in-law is now building me a stand for a feeder platform. I’m hoping that will work. Last year, when I had not yet become an official birder, a couple of House Finches took to using my porch railing a transfer station. I had an inside from my office chair where I would watch the male finch first eat and then vomit into female’s mouth. She then pooped and took off. Quite the marital ritual. My railing was covered in Finch guano. Clearly my porch has some appeal, which is nice, but, even with a platform bird feeder, there will probably be lots more guano cleanup in my future.
