It only took a week...

Writer: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

Finally today I finished the first review of my South Africa photos. I even added photos to the first week of eBird checklists -- still have a LOT to do, but I feel like I am getting there. I'm attaching the eBird trip report if anyone cares to slog through 105 checklists -- they are all there (but only photos for the first week). I should note that I did not go on all the walks, so my totals show about 40 less birds than the complete tour.

Still I started the trip with 362 life birds and ended with 703 - better than I had dreamed. This means I passed a number of milestones along the way --

#400 - Southern Double collared Sunbird (day 1) - Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

#500 - White-fronted Plover (day 5), Jacob's Bay (we went to see the Antarctic Tern - we did, but this bird was a bonus!)

#600 - Green Woodhoopoe (day 10), Kruger National Park (Stock photo -- not mine!)

#700 - Squacco Heron (day 14) - As it happens this ended up being my favorite bird of the trip.- Lake Panic Bird Hide

More details reports to come...
