I recently got confirmation that many birders are kayaking out to the very productive Charlestown Breachway/Ninigret Mudflats. I formulated my plan to rent a kayak from the local Kayak Center.
The next night on the News I see that the Charlestown Kayak Center had a burglary. The thieves stole 20+ kayaks and a few Stand Up Paddleboards. The owner said they can’t replace them because all the manufacturers have them on backorder.
Apparently, things like bikes and kayaks are hot right now – hmmm. People have time on their hands? Great – just when I finally make a decision. I’m still going to try to rent, but nobody opens early, which is when I want to go.
Last week someone at work mentioned his wife wanted a foldup kayak. That sounded great and no rack (high lifting required). Back ordered until September.
Clearly, I won’t be a kayak owner this season. I will by next season.
Again, my Zen birding lesson for the day is patience! Ok, it’s always patience but sometimes there is an additional lesson.
