Never A Dull Moment

Writer's picture: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

This evening I headed for Sachuest Point to see the swallows. I saw a few swallows, but very few. What I did see what Goldfinches.

During the spring migration, many a Goldfinch was mistaken for a warbler. Now I’m pretty good at calling a Goldfinch as I see them, but tonight was a very different Goldfinch experience.

My guess is there were between 50-100 birds in the bushes. As I walked by they flew and it was like being swallowed. Flashes of yellow filled the sky and occasionally landed on a branch for a photo.

Flocks of Goldfinch are called –

· a 007 – a play on Goldfinger?

· a Glister – quite charming!

· a Rush – as in Gold?

· a Treasury – as in Fort Knox?

· a Vein – no words

Mr. Goldfinch and his Treasury are ready for their close up. It was delightful. I like them better now.
