Another lovely productive birding day in a Rarity Hunt organized by Sam Miller. A difficult ID under the best of circumstances confirmed a rare Long—billed Dowitcher at Quonnie doing a birding event focused on rarities. A very rare (usually only in Russia & Australia) was discover in Narragansett but it require a slog through a muddy Marsh (not my thing). I will try again today from a distance but it is unlikely that will be a productive way to see the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper. Still it is always exciting when a never before seen in RI bird shows up. Lots of Gulls at the State Beach - a. tiny Bonaparte’s and a few laggard Laughing Gulls & Semipalmated Plover who haven’t headed south yet.
