Reports of a new 2024 bird - Lesser Yellowlegs - inspired me to go out after I posted last Sunday to Succotash Marsh. As long as I was going out, I stopped by Quonnie to see if the Oystercatchers would show up for a photo and they did.

Monday I went to the other side of Rhode Island to meet a friend for lunch. She cancelled -- but I had a lovely day exploring that side.. I hadn't been to Tiverton/Little Compton yet this year, so I was curious how it looked given all the rain and storms. Well Tunipus Pond/South Beach parking lot is basically non-existent. Maybe 4 cars can park and the rest of the lot is a piled with a couple of feet of rocks. Don't know if that will be fixed before summer. Otherwise it was surprisingly dry and the dirt roads in good shape.
Fogland beach was fascinating -- if you didn't believe that there was beach erosion this year before you will now -- that picnic table used to be a comfortable seat from the beach. The bench is about 5 feet above the sand now. Yikes!

Sakonnet Point - I thought this might be an Iceland Gull from afar... clearly its a Wooden Gull.

Tuesday was a local day, I drove Buckeye Brook Road and worked my back home from Succotash. Was happy to see my Osprey back at Cap'n Jacks & the First Of Year Piping Plovers at Quonnie on the Sandbar.

On Wednesday I stopped by Worden Pond where we had Canvasbacks a few weeks back -- a huge amount of Ruddy Ducks, but not much else. It was fairly quiet at Hundred Acre Pond and the Road to the Great Swamp. Stopped by the Matunuck Farm Pond to get a photo of the Pectoral Sandpiper that's been around there lately.

Thursday I had a luncheon and Dr. appointment in East Providence, so I braved the traffic and went to Swam Point Cemetery in the morning. It was somewhat quiet, but still had a nice list -- so -- many -- Robins!

Friday I stayed local for the most part -- it was pretty windy. I caught both Osprey's at Breach Drive in Westerly. Had a lovely encounter with a Herring Gull who landed on the hood of my car and an American Oystercatcher flyby.

I did not bird on a very soggy Saturday, but I got a lot of decluttering done in my Studio. Just did a quick bird on Sunday -- I stopped at Succotash and then Quonnie. I was rewarded by closer encounters with the now resident Piping Plovers.

Turned out to be a nice afternoon -- I'm hoping that some day next week it will be warm enough and the tide will be right for a beach sit at Quonnie. Fingers crossed.
