It’s October 7th and I have just two months left in my Big Year in a Small Town. I’ve got 196 birds, so I’m pretty sure I’ll hit 200 before the end. I’m happy with that number, but happier with all I’ve learned and gained along the way.
I don’t think I will do another Big Year next year. Don’t get me wrong I will count new life birds and keep looking for photos I didn’t get this year, but I want to focus on those bird Moment. When I connect with an individual bird, look into their eyes and maybe their souls.
I might change my mind between December 7th and January 1st, but I don’t think I will ever be some committed as to have 100 birds the first week in January. I prefer a more leisurely pace. I don’t want to compete against other birders, I’m not even sure I want to compete with myself.
Zen Birder thought for the day – sometimes you just have to let the birds win and sometimes that means you win too.
American Coot at Chapman Pond 10/10/2020 -- my second spotting and more than a moment!
