On short notice went on a pelagic bird boat ride today. It was on a Cod boat -- so the primary business was catching fish. We did however each get one new bird - mine was a lifer. But best of all I got to spend 9 hours on a boat looking for birds with 5 experienced birders -- I was in birding heaven and I know a LOT more about these ocean dwelling birds than I did when I got on the boat.
My life bird - Black-legged Kittiwake, the others year bird -- Dovekie. We saw a lot of Razorbills & Northern Gannets. I only have a few photos -- haven't quite gotten the knack of taking pictures on a tippy boat -- not have I gotten the knack of standing on said tippy boat. The Gannets were plentiful and cooperative as you will see from the photos.
And yes, it is December, but for the most part it was quite comfortable. Grateful I was asked & could go. Life bird total 297, Life birds in RI 291, 2021 Birds in RI 282.
