Arriving at Key West

Our view from Pelican Key Largo Cottage this morning.

Another Red Junglefowl - not countable -- with chicks!

Had a nice stop at Long Key State Park (every State Park has some kind of fee). It has two sides -- one on the ocean and one that is more marshy and woodsy.

Ruddy Turnstone, Semipalmated Plover & Least Sandpiper

Magnificent Frigatebird

Black-bellied Plover

A large flock of Great Egrets

Now to the marshy/woodsy side

Juvi Little Blue Heron

Juvi White Ibis (hmmmmm second Juvi -- maybe its a nursery)

Curly-tailed Lizard

Northern Parula

Prairie Warbler

Lunch at a little place on Route one and then a backtrack to try to see a Reddish Egret (a lifer for Cindy and one of my favorite wader)

Grassy Key - Tropical Avenue is a lovely pond just off of Route 1 -- great shorebird/wader spot.

Black-necked Stilt @65 of them!

Tricolored Heron

Roseate Spoonbill

Greater Yellowlegs

Lesser Yellowlegs

Juvi White Ibis, Snowy Egret

Black-bellied Plover

Least Tern

Short-billed Dowitcher

Bald Eagle

Almost to Key West we stopped of at Boca Chica Rd which borders a Navy Airstrip Base. Slow time of day, but that didn't deter the Palm Warblers

Ruddy Turnstone & Short-billed Dowitcher

Sanderling

Weird Black-bellied Plover -- it's eye looks like it is popping out of its head...

Finally to Key West, we stopped off at Indigenous Park even though we knew it was closed. Had the most success at the back of the nearby Dog Park in a little copse of trees and pond with a sign that read "Monroe Bird Sanctuary". Since Monroe is the county that encompasses the Keys, Dry Tortugas and part of the Everglades, I assume it is tongue in cheek, but it worked for us.

Red Junglefowl with black/gray legs -- COUNTABLE!

Another lifer - White-crowned Pigeon. It gave us a quick visit and left, but came back for a photo shoot. I love their drama -- eyes, nape of neck and striking white cap!

Finished just in time to get to dinner! A good sleep tonight, tomorrow we have a long boat ride!
