Back in little Rhody...

I've been kind of phoning it in this week... Here was Tuesday in Westerly

A baby red cow in a field full of Black Cows...

Quonnie Breachway

Great Egret

Double-crested Cormorant

Watch Hill Lighthouse

Herring Gull

Brant

Shore Road, Westerly

Red-shouldered Hawk

Wednesday again -- just the usual suspects

Charlestown Breachway

Greater Yellowlegs

Great Blue Heron

Moonstone Beach Road

Cedar Waxwings

Misquamicut State Beach

Laughing Gulls

And then -- I've had a miraculous few days in nature -- often when I go on an amazing trip, when I get home, it all seems kind of, well, boring. I've been basically phoning it in the last few days until Tuesday when I found a first of the year rare bird when I wasn't even looking (Western-Cattle Egret).

Pound Road Field,, Westerly

Western-Cattle Egret

American Kestrel

I returned on Friday to see the Western-cattle Egret again and some other species.

Pound Road Field

Western-cattle Egret

American Kestrel

Carolina Wren

Moonstone Beach Road

Song Sparrow

I had a visitation that seemed even more amazing -- a little American Mink, jumped up on a rock about 6 feet from where I was sitting in my car looking for birds. It gave me a nice long look and I even have 2 videos.

American Mink

Watch Hill Lighthouse

Snow Bunting

Misquamicut State Beach

Horned Lark

American Pipit

Saturday was the annual Rarity Roundup and I didn't see anything exciting or get good photos -- bummer that I dipped on the numerous Cave Swallows that were in the state. Sunday I travelled to NY to visit relatives, so no birding. See you next week!
