The Ospreys have arrived at my Avondale nest. No nestbuilding. Not necessary. He showed up one day, she arrived three days later. He looks young. She is bigger. The day she arrived I saw him bring her a fish and then go to a piling a eat his fish. I’m told this is breeding behavior. This morning it was foggy, but I figured I would try. I pulled up to my usual Boat Yard spot and saw a bird sitting in the nest, but not doing anything. I watched for a bit and it seemed nothing was happening, so I drove out and glance back from another vantage point. There were two birds there. As I focused my “bins” on them, he rose slightly in the air and came down on here. He flapped his wings a few times and fell off into the nest. I had seen a video of Osprey copulation on the monitor Facebook page – it goes on for @45 seconds and the male flies off. That was an attempt. They both just sat that for a minute. She looked at him. She shook her tail feathers at him – literally. He sat there. She tried to comfort him. Tell him it happens to everyone.
He sat there. At least that is what I saw before I drove off to give them a little privacy.
