Birding while packing...

Despite needing to prepare for my Amazon trip, I've had some nice birding in Rhode Island that past few weeks. Also wanted to share a video from someone I met on the ferry to the Dry Tortugas -- which I am in a few times and he mentions me as the person who told him there was a Cuban Pewee on the island. Some nice videography and he went snorkeling (which I did not) so it gives you a nice flavor of the island.

So on to Rhode Island -- Quonnie has been just ok -- nothing spectacular

This was my last morning birding in Rhode Island for a few weeks and I was tempted to chase one of the birds I need for my year list, but instead I decided to stick to the coast. Even though I already feel the change to summer (translation the arrival of the tourists and the attitude) I went out early and it is a bit gloomy out. I skipped Quonnie, but was rewarded not by birds (although I finally got some good interesting time with a few Green Herons) but by Mammals.

Succotash Marsh

Coyote - with a beautiful brindle coat and lovely eyes

Galilee Bird Sanctuary (adjacent)

Green Heron -- two flew over the road, only one landed

Willow Flycatcher

Green Heron -- close enough it could be the same one

Atlantic Avenue Salt Marsh

Red Fox with undetermined Prey

So that's it until Mid-June. Excited about the Amazon!
