I've been in a new bird drought since May 29th and wasn't expecting it to break today, until it did. I found a Common Gallinule (which has been in the area, but very stealthy only a few folks have seen it) in a place I wasn't expecting it, Mud Pond. Unfortunately it didn't stay long enough for others to see it. Hopefully it stays put for a bit. At Succotash I've been hoping for a return of the Clapper Rail since I last saw it on May 14 -- every time I go, I listen and watch for it for a while but no dice. Today I was startled when it called loudly -- I saw it hiding in the grass (photo included but not good) and then run off into the higher grass. Not a new bird but a rare one. An excellent day -- finally at 255 birds for 2022.
