It's a Sign

Driving down Matunuck Schoolhouse Road a few weeks ago I spied a lovely field that I thought might have some birds frolicking in it. After a few minutes of observation – I came up empty – nothing, zilch, nada.

I looked at the other side of the street and saw a rock with a single word carved with it. BIRD – it felt like a command. So what was I to do – I birded.

I’m sure it is the name of the family that lives in that house, but for me it was a not only a sign but an omen and a command. Find a bird – and I did. But that sign will be a constant reminder of what I should be doing.
