I was not expecting anything like this lockdown during my Big Year, that has limited my birding territory.
There are trails that are just closed. The trails that are open are often too crowded for good birding and I’m relegated to hiking at 6am or not at all.
Places I would like to see are closed down. A museum at Yale has an incredible stuffed bird collection that is scheduled to close in July. I found out about it a week before the lockdown. I rue that I may never get to see it.
Yet, I managed to find 50 new birds in May. I have a list of territories I want to get to. I’m told like in February, June quiets down. Maybe just as well. I love the beach in the morning in early summer. It is temperate and quiet and I get see birds on the beach.
The birds will let me know when it is time to go back.
