Last evening I went to Point Judith to see a gathering of the Purple Martins (and some swallows) in the Marsh behind Aunt Carrie's reported by Sam Miller on Wednesday - yesterday he counted over 500 Purple Martins. He thinks it might be the biggest Purple Martin roost in New England. It was very cool -- the photos don't do it justice and are confined to the phone wire on the road next to the Marsh -- taking photo of hundreds of swallows in the sky does not convey it's impact.
