Off to the Keys

Spent a little time this morning at our Garden Cottage and the gateway to the Everglades. Not a lot of birds seen -- but heard a bunch of Painted Bunting.

Cindy

I just realized I haven't posted a photo of the travelers (you can see part of the car -- which I also forgot take a photo of on the left side of the above). We are in the airport @2 hours into our delay...

This was the best stop of the day -- Cindy spotted a Muscovy Duck and we pulled in. Nice surprise.

Some of the Red Junglefowl in Florida are countable (American Birding Association rules) the ones with Yellow or Red Legs are not countable. Fun to see them anyway.

Egyptian Goose (All over the place in South Africa)

Limpkin (this pic with an Apple Snail for breakfast)

This was the BEST surprise -- 8 Blue-and-yellow Macaw -- lifer for both of us.

One of the many, many feral cats in South East Florida

The rest of the trip was fairly uneventful. We had a boat ride scheduled at 3pm and were the only two people on it. Captain Tony said he was going to focus on birds, but when he identified a Great Egret as a Snowy Egret we knew he would not be much help.

Great White Heron is the bird that motivated Eleanor Roosevelt to save the Everglades by convincing her husband to make it a national park.

Iguanas

Royal Tern

Double-crested Cormorant

Brown Pelican

Stopped at The Fish House for take-out Blue Crab Salad, which we ate on our screen porch (very nice), otherwise woefully inadequate (no door between bedrooms, no functioning toilet, no WiFi).

Looking forward to Key West tomorrow.
