On Month To Go

November 6, 2020 there are just 30 days left in my Big Year in a small town. I am not birding, not by choice, but by necessity.

I planned to go to Moonstone Beach to see if there are any pelagic birds nearby and walk down the beach to Trustom Pond for the Tundra Swans and up the beach to Card’s Pond to see if anything is there. I planned to scan Mud Pond for the American Bittern to get a better picture. I planned to stop at Perry’s Mill Pond to check out the new access and look for ducks.

My car tire didn’t agreed with the plan. Last night while driving back from the Watch Hill Lighthouse on the way to the grocery and bird seed stores my low inflation light went off and the tire I’ve had patched twice now was down to 16 lbs. I drove in the direction of both home and the dealer, thinking I could stop at home and wait until morning if it was a fast leak (I now own a tire pump that uses the car’s power to inflate) or on to the dealer who was open for another 30 minutes.

I made it to the dealer, but needed to leave the car for service in the morning which mean the best laid plans of Barbara and birds would not be happening.

Instead I’m writing blogs.

Instead I’m updating my website.

Cold comfort. I want to be with the birds – particularly in my last 30 days.
