Owls & Vireo

Writer's picture: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

Was planning on starting the day at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, but there was only one bird seen there in the last few days I haven't already seen. So I decided to see if I could see some more Burrowing Owls because they are so darned cute, plus there were two rare birds at Florida Atlantic University area. I spotted the Owls when it was still dark. They were in a more natural setting today and in a large field where access is blocked. There is also an American Kestrel that hangs out there.

I dipped (did not see) on Rarity - Brown-crested Flycatcher but saw the Bell's Vireo. Saw it clearly, but it wouldn't stay still long enough for a photo. It was right next to this -- If you read closely it says Transcendence Portal - that bird certainly transported me. It also gave me a very specific landmark to give a woman I had met yesterday directions to where I saw the bird and she got it too!

Next off to Loxahatchee NWR -- not a lot of activity. No Snail Kites, but some fun photos and I saw a Sora just before it slipped behind the reeds.
