Short but Sweet

Writer's picture: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

Already posted about Monday and there were a few days this week I either did not bird or did not take photos, so here is what I have.

Back to Quonnie for the first time in a few days on Tuesday. Just the usual suspects, but it was very nice to reconnect.

Wednesday was back at Quonnie -- again just the usual suspects and not so great light, so I was not motivated to take a lot of photos. Tim was with me at the beginning and a Virgina birder who was visiting Westerly show up about 30 minutes in. She lives inland so was delighting in being so close to the shorebirds and picking up lifers. I lent her my scope because it was low tide and the sandbar was the best spot in the area. She has a very good ear and was quick to learn the different vocalization. It is always fun & energizing to see someone take in Quonnie for the first time.

Pretty rainy on Thursday and I did not go birding -- on Friday I did sit at Quonnie -- but most everything was on the Sandbar and unphotographable. Some idiot started flying a drone overhead at @6:40AM -- if I lived in the area I would have called the cops. That things was loud and flushed every bird that was anywhere nearby -- it did 5 passes before I left. SO aggrivating!

I did not bird on Saturday, did some administrative stuff at home and met a birder friend for Breakfast. The tide and fact it was the weekend made me avoid Quonnie.

I was at Quonnie at 5:30 this morning and there was a boat trailer parking jam in the lot -- they were basically block most of the car parking. I got the last available spot. I am not a big fan of the boat people -- even less so when I left Quonnie this morning and there were two boat trailers blocking the path to the beach that one has to take to the point at high tide. Sometimes I wonder where the cops are...

Thankfully it was quiet start to the morning at the point, turned into a long trail of people (only 1 dog and it was small an leashed) and ended with a meeting with my accountant -- who I did not recognize at first (I've never seen him in sunglasses, but when he started talking I knew him).

As I was leaving there was what looked like a family about of about 25 people headed out to the point. I'm very happy I had already packed up. The boat parking was so packed that trailers blocked the path to the beach you have to use at high tide -- that will be fun later. I hope cops do something. It is just wrong when that happens.

On a better note I was reading a book while I was sitting there and I thought I would share this snippet with you before the photos -- "These pages are about befriending the powerful emotions that nature often ignites in us -- trusting them to guide us into the deepest, most satisfying parts of our being" Wow! Now if I could just keep that in my heart while I walk back through the throngs to get to my car after the beach sit.

Some of the peaceful part...I think these creatures would agree with that quote...
