Short Cold week!

Writer's picture: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

Yes Cold, cold, cold! So what do I do? Monday I got further to bird where I can stay in my car. This was my second try for the Female Barrow's Goldeneye that has been seen daily at Colt State Park in Bristol. I was there in the cold for almost two hours and just when I decided to leave -- it showed up. I'm surprised, usually when I don't see a bird the first time, the third time is the charm. So surprised and grateful!

Swung by Fort Adams to look for the Orange-crowned Warbler -- dipped, but got another look at the Lark Sparrow & Dickcissel, birds from last week. When I was almost home I stopped at Spray Rock Lookout in Weekapaug and saw a wonderful display of Bonaparte's Gulls -- I LOVE their wing shapes.

Tuesday was a little less cold, but snowier -- Some fun birds anyway at Misquamicut State Beach & Watch Hill Lighthouse.

Snow Bunting -- which have been few and far between this year.

Wednesday was even colder, but I managed to sit for 2 hours at Fort Adams -- had a quick look (but no photo) at the Orange-crowned Warbler...I was there so long waiting for it to reappear. In the meantime I had a number of cooperative subjects including another look at the Lark Sparrow & Dickcissel.

Believe it or not Thursday was even colder and I went north to Rockland Cemetery, Ponagansett Road & Ram's Tail Road -- not to a lot of pictures, because I was slow getting the window down. Last stop was Pocasset Cemetery in Cranston -- which was a nice bird, but still quite cold.

This Red-tailed Hawk was cooperative twice on Ponagansett Road.

This Blue Jay flashed his tail feathers at me near the feeder at Pocasset Cemetery

A few bird moments from Friday --

Off to Maine for the weekend -- I will look at birds, but unlikely to take photos. See you next week!
