Snail Kite - at last...

Writer: Barbara SeithBarbara Seith

Started this morning a little before sunrise at Harns Marsh. It was described to me as a place where you HAD to walk. My feet are a little weary from walking almost every day, but I had strapped on my hiking shoes and was ready to do a bit of a walk. I was ecstatic to find that it was unnecessary. The parking lot extends for most of the length of the pond and that is where the Snail Kite action would be. They only eat Apple Snails and so do Limpkins -- so if you are looking for Snail Kites, look for the Limpkins!

I had a Snail Kite flyby shortly after I arrived.

Not the greatest pix, so I hung out with some other residents while I awaited its return.

Pied-billed Grebe

AlliGATOR!

Anhinga

Limpkin -- the Snail Kite predictor!

Had a few other flybys too

Osprey

Bald Eagles

Palm Warbler

Tricolored Heron with the bluest bill I have ever seen

Double-crested Cormorant with the catch of the morning

The fish got away!

And another Limpkin!

Now there's the Snail Kite!

Finally I went to see the Monk Parakeets in Cape Coral -- didn't get great pictures, but they are the best so far.

They nest in the lights for a baseball field -- this is a duplex nest!

They were feeding in the field too

Glad I finally got photos of some of the Parakeets I have seen.
