The first time I think I encountered the Sora, I heard it. It sounded like a siren on the street behind the park, but it was closer. I found a recording and it sounded like what I heard. Under most circumstances if you hear a bird you can count a bird. But I didn’t feel confident about it, so I went back and looked for it. I got a shot of a bird, but it was not definitive. The Sora won.
Today I saw a bird cross the road that looked like a Sora, but it was quick and I was far from sure. A Sora had been spotted there the previous day – and the birder was there. We looked in the area the bird crossed to for twenty minutes. I had to go to work. It is the same area and other birder when I saw what I think was the Virginia Rail cross the same road. Again, it was fruitless.
Maybe the third time is the charm and next time I will not only see the Sora and be sure, but get a photo too.
Zen Birding lesson of the day: Soras are illusive and patience is a virtue.

This is where the Sora should have been -- the second time!
