The Beach parking lot

Around this time of year the Misquamicut State Beach Parking lot is no longer packed with beachgoers everyday and it starts to get birdy - particularly in dicey weather. Today was a special treat -- enough for me to go twice.

First round Whimbrels, Juvie Semipalmated Plovers & a Green-winged Teal.

Second round Whimbrels again, but the stars of the show were Caspian Terns. I spent about 30 minutes with 2 adults & (once I noticed it -- actually Sue pointed it out) a Juvenile. Given the lousy weather prediction for tomorrow this was such a gift to watch these birds for that long. It is the closest I have ever been to them (@25-30 feet) and my first Juvie! Even with all that observation time

I did not get the coveted poop shot. Oh they pooped...a lot, I was just either on the wrong bird or late on the trigger.

They are starting to set up for a Carnival this weekend, so it is probably the last day for a while there will be good birds there.
