Monday Eclipse -- Check
Tuesday I did one of my favorites - Buckeye Brook Road, Clark Memorial Library & Kenyon Hill Trail (in actuality a road). Then off to do some Osprey Monitoring.

Osprey perched on a creative solution to get it to NOT nest on this chimney.

Wednesday started at Quonnie -- the only surprise was a pair of Red Crossbills that flew over vocalizing. My Target location was Canochet Road and it was productive, although not as productive as I had hoped. I heard & saw (briefly) a Louisiana Waterthrush, but I was really hoping to get a photo this year. So I will still be looking for that bird.
Had a wonderful Bird moment on Stubtown Road. Two Wood Ducks flew into a tree close to me -- got several shots, then the male few to another spot (not lit as well, but got some more shots). Then I looked down and saw a Pileated Woodpecker on a downed tree about 20 feet away, unfortunately I missed the shot (too many branches). I did get a fuzzy distant photo. Very cool moment.

Thursday dawned Gloomy but I was in Foster by dawn. Had a brief encounter with an early Wood Thrush in Rockland Cemetery. The whole morning did not have good light. Ran into some weird stuff.

I didn't post any checklists on Friday but I did drive around a revel in the influx of Gulls due to the storm. Tons of variety!

In the afternoon a neighbor found an early Eastern Kingbird at Avondale and I had to check it out.

Sunday morning started with a trip to Nicholas Farm Management Area, where a Male Blue Grosbeak - usually an annual visitor, but never easy -- had been spotted in the morning. I didn't have the energy to go up yesterday and was lucky that he hung out for another day and that Bill Thompson, who refound it, was still there when I got there. Unfortunately as I was walking up, the bird flew into high grasses. We waited for about 15 minutes and when Betsy Staples arrived the bird popped out. Guess she's my lucky charm today. Had a chance to chat with Sam Miller who was out with his large parabolic microphone trying to capture all the various Red Crossbill sounds.

Later I believe I heard a Northern Waterthrush on an out of the way road in Hope Valley -- I'm still waiting to hear from Sam -- the man with the parabolic microphone -- to see if he agrees. Its been a great week from Eclipse to Blue Grosbeak -- an early Northern Waterthrush would just be icing on the cake.
