When September Ends...

It has still be a it slow, but some nice bird moments nonetheless. Monday I hit Succotash Marsh and there were over 100 Egrets and close to 70 Great Blue Heron.

Tuesday I went to Snake Den Farm in search of a stealthy Connecticut Warbler with a trip to Foster on the return. I did not find the CT, but it was a nice morning anyway.

While I was in NY with family on Friday, an extremely rare bird (only seen 7 times before in RI) showed up in Northeastern Rhode Island. I saw & heard a lot of them on my Arizona trip, so I waited on Saturday morning to see if it was found again before I took the 1 hour drive up there. It was spotted and I went up even though I only had @1 hour to look before I had to leave. Lucky me -- staying in the parking lot where it was spotted early this morning and along with Nick Pacelli and Dan Finizia we found it again. I sent the word out and about 15 birders streamed out from another part of the farm to see the Black-Throated Gray Warbler who put on a nice show. It was a new state bird for me - I think it will elevate me to tied for 30th in the all time Rhode Island State list. Still difficult to photograph, between the leaves, the other birds and a very flitty BTGW. Did manage to get one semi-decent photo.

Saturday night is supposed to be a good flight night... we'll see!

Lots more activity Sunday morning not much new for me, but a few new birds were in the area -- Red-headed Woodpecker at Snake Den Farm, Philly Vireo at Trustom Pond -- places I was not. But hopeful next week will be better.

And so it goes. Hoping Sunday's activity will continue, although with tomorrow's rain, who knows. Ah, the complexities of nature.
