Off to Southern California

Early trip to the airport in a bit of a daze and the cats were not awake yet.  Drove the speed limit and barely missed a 5 car crash at a merge for Cape Cod – no cops weren’t even there yet.  I’m excited because I was able to connect with and engage Catherine Hamilton (a former Rhode Island birder & artist) just yesterday, to be my guide in Pasedena on Monday morning.

Got an “upgrade” to a hybrid RAV4 but it has a KEY you need to use in the ignition (and to open the doors – my car has touch entry), so I kept putting it away and get it out again.  Initially I had trouble figuring out how to remove the key (you press it in) – crazy. Went to the Manhattan Beach Pier and the hill was too steep for me to walk down, luckily we found a spot on beach level (it was foggy).

I saw my first California Life Bird – a Western Gull – through the fog, also a Marbled Godwit, Willets & Sanderling.  We went to Redondo Beach Pier for dinner at Old Tony’s restaurant – good fish and over the foggy water.

The best Plane set up EVER -- unfortunately it takes a lot of space (so they are retiring this type of plane) -- I could not reach the backpack with my foot without unbuckling the seatbelt. The foot rest and recliner were controlled separately with easy to use/understand controls. The guy next to me was reading scripts -- going to LA!

My friend and hostess Nancy on her beautifully appointed patio.

A visit to a very foggy Manhattan Beach Pier...
