The day after I wrote the last blog post I drove to Maine – Stopped in Brunswick to get a photo upgrade of a Snowy Owl. Initially I drove right by it while I was trying to find the address. It was on the top of a barn with a dark gray roof. Hard to miss. In fact, someone was looking at it when I drove on by. But I did see a Kestrel on this little detour, so worth it. Between that and birding on my cousin’s deck – I have 18 new birds on my Maine Life list for a total of 19. The Atlantic Puffin was my first Maine bird, which I saw on a boat trip in 2011 – before being a birder was even a twinkle in my eye.
In Rhode Island 11 new birds (2 lifers) have been added to the list and spring migration is just starting. I have been trying not to hike yet (after both my foot surgery & a subsequent knee issue), but I think I’m almost there. Going to Connecticut tomorrow for a late goodbye lunch with some Colleagues and I will bird my way there and back if there are good opportunities for birds.
Had a lovely moment this morning with a warbler that I thought might be a new one. It was extremely cooperative as was the traffic, so I got lots of shots, but turns out it was a Pine Warbler which I got a few weeks ago. Not to concerned the warblers are just arriving, there will be more to come.
In the meantime, I’m working on doing some paintings of the birds I don’t have good photos of because I’m already tired of seeing the little gull bemoaning the lack of photos. Maybe those birds will be honored by the rendering and show up for my camera. Wishful birding!
